There is happy and then there is “hound dog happy”!
This is a celebration of the beautiful healing nature of dogs in general and hounds in particular. And not just any hounds! I am talking coonhounds and their fox hound cousins; sorely misrepresented and misunderstood, they are harbingers of healing ! I want to share a place to celebrate hounds for those who already love them. But perhaps more importantly, I want to educate and show proof of how inspiring and healing they can be, for those who may (or may not be) curious to learn more about them.
I do not want to deny that there are terrible things happening to animals in the world or dismiss the plight of dogs that are in need of rescue. I have been witness to these atrocities my whole adult life, and that awareness is never far from the forefront of my mind. However, I feel like at the end of the day we all need a place to go that is happy, that puts a smile on our faces and creates a resolve to take up the fight again on another day.
How many times in my life have I wished I could do more – transport more, donate more money, save more dogs or even help more “human” friends and this is my way of doing that. For now, I cannot do it monetarily but I can create an oasis of comfort and shared “happy” in this world of uncertainty.
